African Livestock Productivity and Veterinary Healthcare

Our Mission

Livestock health directly impacts the livelihoods of millions of families in Sub-Saharan Africa. Researchers at vHive are helping farmers predict, prevent, and treat animal illnesses, changing lives one herd at a time.

In line with our purpose to have a global impact in advancing care for animals, we have engaged with farmers and veterinarians in Africa for many years, led by the previous vHive Director Alex Cook.  He and his colleagues develop strategies for rural communities to predict, prevent, detect, and treat illness in animals and to address unmet medical needs.

What we're doing

Our efforts are powered by the African Livestock Productivity and Health Advancement (A.L.P.H.A.) initiative which began in Uganda, Nigeria, and Ethiopia, and later expanded to Tanzania.
