Good ranch management practice is essential if optimal livestock production, productivity and marketing are to be realised. vHive, Zoetis and RTC Labs at Makerere University in Uganda are collaborating with a Ugandan cattle ranch owner to provide a data driven action plan to maximise returns on investment and reduce operating costs. vHive are managing the data and Zoetis and RTC are advising on farm management and equipment.

The team are using Epicollect 5 mobile app and a Tru-Test RFID stick reader to collect livestock productivity data on the ranch. The vHive team will store, harmonise, analyse, and report on the data and make these available to the ranch owner. If the initial phase of the project is successful, we will look to roll out the approach to neighbouring ranches.
